Crocheting and Reading

Crocheting:
This week I've been working on some crocheted projects for my Nerd Wars competition on Ravelry. I'm not sure if I have posted about Nerd Wars before or not, but it is a really fun, and friendly, crochet/knit/spin competition. The goal is to give you that spark to complete some of those projects you've been planning on doing, but just haven't had the time, while competing against other "nerdy" crafters. My group is Team Writer. We are lovers of amateur sleuths, both in fiction and on TV. Nancy Drew, Scooby Doo, and Patrick Jane from The Mentalist are my inspirations. What a group, right? :)

Last month I finished a couple of small items, nothing too complicated. But this month, in addition to a large Christmas present I am making, I am planning on crafting a few projects I've had in my queue for awhile. The first one is this Nook case. It is actually a knitting pattern for a hat, but I've changed it into a crochet pattern for my Nook!

Can you tell what the pattern is? I know. It really doesn't look like anything now, but it will be very "cool" when it is done. :) And I LOVE this yarn. It is the new Vanna's Colors in Lagoon Blue. AC Moore had it on sale for $1.00 a skein a few weeks ago. I wish I had bought ten of these skeins, but I only bought one. :(

Reading:
I haven't used my Nook in a long time, a very long time. I really prefer to read a physical book over a book on an electronic device. Maybe that is because I work in book publishing and get to experience the entire book process on a daily basis. It is a very long and time consuming process, but is so gratifying for both the publisher and the author when their printed book is completed and delivered to them. Plus, you don't get that new book smell with an ebook!

One of the only books I've downloaded to my Nook is Camy Tang's, Protection for Hire. I've been wanting to read this for awhile, just haven't had the chance. I don't know too much about it only that is a Christian suspense novel about the Japanese Mafia. Yep! That is exactly why I bought it! :)

Linking to Yarn Along and WIP Wednesday.

  1. I've not entered the e reader world yet and seem to only be motivated by the fact that I could read in bed without the light in my hubby's eyes! Would rather crack open my own books or some from the library.
Looks like you might be making snow!! We didn't have much this winter and the summer has been pretty dry, too! Even tho it's July 4th, I'm good with the rain that is scattered here several times today. My plants are all singing! And I have a quilt binding I want to sew. So that when the snow flies next year, a newlywed couple will have just a little extra help keeping warm!!

  2. Agreed about the book smell! Especially old cloth bound books. But I digress. Now off to see what other things you make. :)
