Crocheting:
Sorry for the terrible picture this week. It has been raining every day, so getting a good picture has been impossible.
I've gotten a little more of my Cath Kidston blanket done. So far, so good, but I'm really not happy with the dark green. I think it is too dark with the other colors. I'm still debating about whether to take the last three rows out, to get rid of the dark green, or just keep going with no more dark green rows. Decisions, decisions! The other colors are working well, so I'm going to start repeating now with a teal blue row next. I think that will look nice against the yellow.
Reading:
I have an amazing used books store close to my house. Edward McKay Used Books and More consumes many of my Saturdays! I love walking through the aisles, checking out all of the new used items they have for sale. I always end up in the mystery section, but to get there I have to pass through the cookbook section. That is always a fun trip!
I have been trying to get myself on a healthy eating regimen for a year now, but I still haven't found one that I like. So, the used cookbook section is always a first stop to see if I can find something that might put the fire under my butt to eat healthier. The title, Japanese Women Don't Get Old or Fat, was what made me pick up this book, but reading that Japanese women have the lowest obesity rate in the world made me buy the book. Plus, it was only a couple of bucks!
I just started reading it, but am learning a lot already, especially about portion control. It reads more like a novel than a cookbook, with a recipe or two in every chapter. I really like that. It is so much nicer than having all of the recipes lumped together at the end of the book. It also makes for a much easier read.
Linking to Yarn Along and WIP Wednesday.

i know it's sometimes hard to tell from photos, but i really like that dark green in the mix--seems to make the whole square "pop". Aren't used book stores the best????? We used to have a great one in town, but sadly, it closed a few years ago. I'm still missing it.
ReplyDeleteHere is my suggestion... why not make another square without the green and see which you like best?
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds a lot like the "French Women Don't Get Fat" series, which was also a fun read. Primarily with the same conclusions- i.e. American portions are too big ;)
Looks like you are having fun anyway!
you could just make sure to put in some other darker colors....I like a mixture in what I make. And boy, do I not like it when I have to take something out and start over!
ReplyDeleteI like the colours. I think teal would work nicely too if you wanted something a little lighter and brighter.
ReplyDeleteI would love a second hand bookstore near me. I would probably spend far to much time in it though :)
That books sounds awesome, is it a parody? Or is for real? Either sounds great.
ReplyDeleteLove your colors on the granny squares, I need to revisit those, it's been years since I've done crochet!
I like the colours in the square very much, including the dark green! I like books that put a recipe in with the story.
